June

Hey, Friends!

Really this is June and have just finished the July Word Play by With Thy Needle & Thread . These are being switched in a frame on the door to my office at work.  That’s not such a great finish – but it is how these are being treated.

May

Mary Gibson is framed!  They always do a very fine job at my LNS, Stitch and Frame.  Are you familiar with her?  Her origin is from Haslemere Educational Museum, and I got the chart from Needleprint.  I think she turned out beautifully and she will hang proudly along with the other (much smaller) A&Es!

April Showers?

Hey, Friends!

Here is the April Word Play by With thy Needle & Thread, framed and now hanging on my office door.  Not a great pic taken with my phone!

I finished stitching the design that was a gift from The Scarlett House at the PALS conference last year.  Thanks Tanya!  It was a fun stitch!  It’s in a small shadow box that sort of reminded me of barn (drift) wood and added some shells around to keep the shore attitude.  It’s stitched on 28ct Tea Linen over one.

Hope everyone has a wonderful spring weekend – with a bit of time for stitching and finishing!

I failed to post this in March, but it's my March finish!

The Gift of Stitching
Issue 59 December 2010
I was supposed to stitch a snowlady/gent for February's ornament in Themalicious but got permission to stitch a snowflake instead as I hate stitching with white. Liz, bless her, found this in blue which was brilliant. I added a silver thread to the blue which really makes it sparkle! Somehow this got into the 3D requirement for March as well so I am technically behind a month!

Never Too Late For Hearts!

This is a belated posting for February.  I'm trying to both stitch and FINISH according to the season so even though I stuck to a heart for February, I think this heart can easily go from spring through summer.  It's meant to be scissor fob but I would rather hang it as an ornament!

My other FINISH was both stitched AND finished in the month of March.
Imagine that ~ stitched & FINISHED in the same month!  YAY!

Jumping to July

This Blackbird Designs piece was stitched a couple of years ago, and finally finished this morning.  I used some handmade Russian dowry linen, stitching over 1 with Belle Soie silk.

What should have taken 45 minutes stretched into several hours, and reminded me why I usually procrastinate on finishing.  My lovely piece of blue herringbone felted wool I picked up from some random quilting shop in Sedona, AZ ended up being 2 piece, with moth holes in parts.  I adapted to that, but then had to put up with the sewing machine having a temper tantrum.  Oops, it was operator error.  The final mistake was realizing as I was clipping corners just prior to turning was I had sewed the 2 pieces together wrong, so the "right" side would be turned in.  Rip out seams, pick off thread scraps, re-pin, and re-sew.  Its done now, and it will probably be another month before I get brave enough to explore my "needs to be finished" pile.

Easter on my mind

I'm totally skipping over St. Patrick's Day since I don't have any stitching for this holiday (something I obviously need to remedy), and moved onto Easter.

I took this 2011 finish...
With Thy Needle & Thread Bunny & Co., using my own silk conversion
on mystery 40 count linen

And turned it into this...

Please excuse the artistic photo glare.

Just a simple pillow finish using hand-dyed felted wool, without any extras.  It was already borderline too big for a pillow finish, but I didn't want it as a wall hanging or framed.

Ides of March

Hey, Friends!

We’re just past the Ides of March.  Does time fly by for everyone else as quickly as for me?  Hard to believe!

Here are some March finishes.  The Prairie Schooler, St. Patric Clover is finished into a little pillow with a beaded trim.

Next is Heart in Hand, St. Patrick Bird pillow with a bit of ric rack and tiny star buttons.

And finally, here is the March Word Play by With thy Needle & Thread, framed and now hung on my office door.

Crow by Primitive Betty

Well, those twenty eight days vanished in a blur, didn't they?  Just ignore the fact that my end of February post is actually a beginning of March one!  What is really irritating is that, yet again, this is an Illinois-made ornament and only needed a seam down the right hand side to complete it!

So without further ado...... I give you Crow by primitive betty!  Click on the link to see Betty's wonderful little designs.

February update...

Whew!!! I didn't expect to complete these all in time, i mean before the end of February.
Happy dancing here!!!
I still haven't finish off into ornamnets the two christmas designs i stitched last January though...
Happy weekend to all!

Christmas?

My first ever lined and cuffed stocking finish!  What was supposed to be a quick break for my eyes from the computer screen turned into a rather lengthy project.  This was stitched about 4 years ago, and has had fabric picked out for it for almost 2 years.

Stitched on 36 count fabric with assorted silks.

Pink overload

I swear I'm not a pink person, but you wouldn't know it from the finishing I've done recently.  The 2 Valentine ornaments I stitched last year, and the other small pillow is a Blackbird Designs piece I stitched as a Mother's Day present a few years ago.  Yep, mom is quite used to getting stitched but not finished gifts *blushes*.  Just one of many reasons I'm happy Charlene started this blog.

Ric-rac from Victorian Motto and large cream beads, with a scrap of cream lace across the back.  Baby ric-rac with small seed beads.  No embellishments, letting the small beads attached to the front be the focus of attention.

Plenty of unfinished items still in the pile.  I'm embarrassed to say I have so many unfinished items laying around I've actually lost something.  I can't find my January CCN cottage I stitched last year.

February is Here

Hey, Friends!

Since February is here, it’s time to do some heart Valentine finishing; right?

When I got up this morning, I decided to go ahead and finish Endless Hearts that has been stitched since February 2012!  I was thinking of adding some buttons, but came across this rusted heart.  Think it looks sweet; right?

Hello...

Hi there from Australia’s Capital, Canberra. I found your SNTF link on Siobhan’s blog and recognize a couple of other names now I am here. It seems like quite a few of us have had the same thought this year after a couple of years of reckless ‘Crazies’ and the like.

I have no blog, but thanks so much Charlene for inviting me join with you guys to finally finish some of my finishes J

I love the Inspiration and Technique page – my ‘hope’ is to try a few different styles of finishes as I go.

Rejoice by the Trilogy, stitched by Gillie

Rejoice
The Trilogy

Hello, everyone, I am Gillie and I blog over at Random Thoughts From Abroad.  Many thanks to Charlene for setting up this blog and may we all surprise ourselves!  I recognise quite a few names here!  I have had this little ornament lurking since Illinois days - three? four? moves ago so I put the finishing touches to it this week.

Hello Everyone!

Hi ~ I’m Chris from California.  First off, let me thank Charlene for starting this.  It was such perfect timing as I began the year determined to FINISH two before starting anything new.  In fact, that’s one of my New Year’s resolutions ~ Two before New.

I am adding two pics today including one for February ~ just in case!  I love ornaments all year long so I'm going to try to finish them for their seasons.

Word Play Pillows

One of my goals for 2013 is to stitch the Word Play charts by With thy Needle and Thread.  I'm stitching them on 40 count Vintage Light Examplar with Gentle Arts Sampler Threads and finishing them off with chenille trim.  This is the December Word Play:

Blackbird Designs ornament

This is from the Joyeux Noel book by Blackbird Designs.  I stitched it in 2011, as charted, on a scrap piece of linen.  I finished it earlier this week into ornament form.

Prairie Schooler Santas

I LOVE Prairie Schooler Santas!  I've had some of these stitched since 2011 but am determined to make 2013 my year of finish-finishing things.  This is my pile o'Santas:
The Santas with the birds, like the one below, are from the Kris Kringle leaflet.
This one is from the Father Christmas leaflet.
This is the 2012 Schooler Santa.

Birds of a Feather Red Santa

Hey everybody!  Thanks so much to Charlene for setting up this blog.  I am hopeless at finishing but intend to get better.  I WILL get better.  I need to keep saying that to myself, because this is the sort of thing that usually happens when I go to do my finishing.  On my poor Red Santa, I sewed the wrong sides together and had to unpick my machine stitching.
I fixed him, and this is the finished ornament, stitched on 36 count Days Gone By with Weeks Dye Works threads:

January Finishes

Hey, Friends!

It felt like I had a little extra time this weekend since I left work early on Friday due to the ice storm.  These have been stitched since 2011... If you want to see the post and details, you can click on the link.

Backing is the same as the little ribbon tie.

Backing is the same as the dotted edging.

Backing is the fabric in the background.

Hello!!..

First off, thanks so much Charlene for accepting me here. Do hope it motivates me more to get back to stitching, haven't done much of it last year. Here's a pic of one of my finishes this January & it is still open...
